Denounces Dangers Of Fascism
(Received 10 a.m.) NEW YORK, December 8. rjpHE SECRETARY OF THE INTERIOR, MR HAROLD L, ICKES, IN A SPEECH AT A DINNER, MADE ONE OF THE MOST OUTSPOKEN DENUNCIATIONS OF THE DANGERS OF FASCISM SO FAR VOICED BY ANY GOVERNMENT LEADER IN THE UNITED STATES. The Minister said the moronic exhibition of the Ku Klux Klan had died down in the United States, but similar “night-shirt lunacy” had engulfed whole nations abroad. Men who were seeking to undermine Democratic institutes in the United States employed the hollow excuse that they were stamping out Communism. It does not require much intelligence to see that such Communism may become the wooden horse within which ruthless Fascism may enter our gates,” said Mr Ickcs. “Fascists who are pretending to save the country from Communism would superimpose upon it equally dreadful Fascism. They are the real enemies of America.”
