Past President Praised. Appreciation of the services of the retiring president, Mr J. D. Mitchell, was expressed by members of the Whangarei Chamber of Commerce at its annual meeting last night. The meeting adopted a motion of Mr T .1, McFarhmc, seconded by Mr H. W. Crawford, endorsing the remarks made. The Clipped Calf. Ingenuity is a strong point of the Maori race. Sometimes, however, it does not pay. This was demonstrated at a recent school calf club parade. Under the rules calves may not have their coats clipped, and two Maori competitors, thinking they would have a rival disqualified, clipped the coal of Iris entry. Unhappily the teacher heard of the escapade, rules were waived and the perpetrators of the plot found themselves disqualified and the entry of the rival was allowed to compete.

The attention of our readers is directed to Henry Wilson's Sensational Liquidation Sale now in full swing. Those who are unable to be in Whangarei may reserve orders by forwarding the necessary cash, to Box 210. Whangarei. These oranges are direct from producer to consumer, and arc accordingly very cheap. 322
