REV. AND MRS. MACDONALD FAREWELLED

At the conclusion of Evensong last night, the parishioners of Christ Church, Whangarei, met in the Parochial Hall to say farewell to Rev. and Mrs R. A. Macdonald.

For the past nine months, the Rev. Macdonald has been assisting with the work ,of the parish, in the absence of the Rev., H, T. Steele, the vicar, who is returning next month after a visit to England. Mr M. W. Porter, the people’s warden. referred to the excellent worki done by the Rev. Macdonald, and the many friendships he and Mrs Macdonald had made in the parish. Mr Porter then read a formal letter from the vestry expressing regret at the departure of the minister. A Presentation. Mr W. Reynolds, vicar’s warden, on behalf of the parishioners, later presented the guests of the evening with a basket, fitted with picnic equipment, which ho hoped would be used frequently, and would remind the recipients of the pleasant time they had had in Whangarei. At the request of the Mothers’,Union, Mr A. Mrsden Woods presented Mr j Macdonald with a pipe, while Mrs Macdonald was given a beautiful bouquet of scarlet carnations. Rev. M. L. A. Bull also expressed regret at the , departure of his colleague. Mr Macdonald, on rising to reply, wag given a great ovation. In a humorous speech, he conveyed thanks for the gifts and for the many kindnesses he and his wife had received in Whangarei. Musical Items. The wives of the vestrymen prepared and decorated the tables, and provided a delightful supper. Musical items were rendered by Mesdames Le Pine and Coleman, Miss Drake and Mr F. G. Ross. Mrs Woolley played the accompaniments. Mr and Mrs Macdonald have loft for a short holiday in the North, after v/hich they will reside at their Howick home.
