BIG HAUL OF OPIUM BY AUCKLAND POLICE
[Special to “Northern Advocate ”] AUCKLAND. Thursday.
Befot’e they could enter to execute a' search warrant on a two-storeyed house in Grey’s Avenue at 11.30 last night, three detectives had to cut their way through a heavily barricaded door with an axe. Six Chinese were arrested and one of the largest hauls of opium secured in Auckland for some time was seized by the raiding officers.
This morning Stanley Chin Horne, laundryman. aged 47. appeared in the Police Court and was remanded until tomorrow on a charge of permitting premises at 91 Grey’s Avenue to be used for the smoking of opium, and, further, with being found in possession of prepared opium. Bail of £IOO was allowed. Five other Chinese, Ah Lee, Ah Sai, Gin On, Wong Mow and Shim Lind admitted being found on the premises for the purpose of smoking opium. Wong Mow and Gin On were each fined £2O. while the other three men Were fined the minimum, £l2 10/, and costs 10/. They were allowed three days In which to pay.
