Mangonui Rugby
At the conclusion of the first round Awanui, now leaders of the senior championship, had only won one game, and that by the narrowest of margins. However, they were fortunate in securing the services of three first rate backs in T. Bowman, “Nip" Lambly and A. Dysart, and came through the second round undefeated. With one more round to go, there is still no certainty which team will ultimately win, as any of the other sides is quite capable of upsetting the leaders-. In the junior section, Ahipara still leads, but will be hard pressed to stave off Kaitaia, who have jumped from the bottom of the ladder to within one point of the leaders by winning all their second round fixtures. Herekino still hold pride of place in the third grade competition, and although they were defeated narrowly once during the round, will, as prophesised earlier, be the most likely to take the honours. The following is the position of the teams: — Senior.
