WHO IS BOWLING CLUB CHAMPION?

Tangle For Kensington Body Who was champion of the Kensington Bowling Club last season? , That is a question which the club itself cannot answer. At the annual meeting last night, a prolonged discussion failed' to locate the' titleholder. Actually, a champion did rule at the outset, but just for the moment or rather until the presentation of trophies came about. When the new president, Mr. F. G. Ross, announced Mr. W. Brydon as thq winner of the Palmer trophy for the championship singles competition, Mr. T. Hellier was instantly on His feet to query Mr. Brydon’s right to the trophy. He stated that the competition had not been completed and that the match committee had, without consulting one of its members, declared Mr. Brydon champion. Extraordinary Circumstances. There followed numerous explanations. Mr. A. H. Curtis, a member of last year’s match committee, detailed how Mr. Brydon and My. L. Studd had qualified for the final/but, on account pf an extraordinary set of circumstahces, the final game could not be played. Then there arose the absolute necessity of declaring a champion to represent the club in the N.A. Centre’s champion of champions competition, and, when Mr. Studd had to enter hospital, Mr. Brydon was awarded the honour. Mr. Curtis pointed out that the third member of the match committee, Mr. N. Fleming, was unavoidably absent from the greens at the time and that he and Mr. Tibbits, constituting a majority, decided that Mr; Brydon be declared the club champion. Mr. Brydon explained to the meeting that he took part in the champion of champions competition on the - understanding that he was simply the club’s representative, and not the champion. He had promised M;*. Studd that the final match would be played, and offered to forgo the title which had been awarded him and play the final after a few “roll-ups” this season. Referred to Centre. Mr. Studd also spoke and offered to forget about the final and allow the championship to go to Mr. Brydon. The discussion proceeded in a never-ending manner until Mr. E. B. Moore applied the check with moving that the discussion be dropped and the matter be referred to the North Auckland Centre for a ruling. Mr. K. G. M. Kelly, in feeling that he as last year’s president, must uphold his match committee, moved an amendment that the position remain as it is, and that Mr. Brydon be de_ | dared the champion. | Mr. Moore’s motion was carried by a big majority.
