A drop of nearly 17,000 in the number of unemployed males in the Dominion, compared with the figure 12 months earlier, is shown in the total as at May 8, according to the Government Statistician. Her conditions is now reported to be ‘-'most grave.” NEW ZEALAND’S DP,OWNINGS. Showing the toll of drowning fatalities in the Dominion an arresting report from Mr D. Saunder, the New Zealand Swimming Association’s educational officer at Auckland was prer sented today at Christchurch to a con-' ference of representatives of the governing bodies of swimming, life-saving and surf work in the Dominion. Over the past 10 years the average deaths from drowning was 200 per annum.
In the event of the prospects being sufficiently encouraging, consideratioii would be given to the question of making a complete geological and geophysical survey.
