Ragwort Control Officer To Be Withdrawn

Concern at the proposed withdrawal of the assistant inspector of noxious weeds, who for the past three years has been concentrating on the elimination of ragwort in the Whangarei and part of the Otamatea county is voiced by local organisations representing farming interests. The appointment was of a temporary nature and it is understood that the Department of Agriculture is to withdraw the services- of -the extra man as from March 31. The following telegram, addressed to the Minister of Lands, has been dispatched by the chairman of the Whangarei County Council; “This council learns with alarm' that the services of the local inspector are being dispensed with at the end of the present month, and urges that you intervene owing to the menace of ragwort in this district. Good; work is being done by this man, and it is highly essential that his services should be retained for a longer period. Your approval strongly urged, please.” The Whangarei A. and P. Society is associating itself with the representations made by the county council.
