Town Board Pays Tribute to Late Mr A. M* Rust \ At the outset of a special meeting of the Hikurangi Town Board on Tuesday evening, the chairman, ,Mr R. Nesbitt, referred to the death of an old and respected resident of the district in Mr A. M. Rush Mr Rust, he said, had spent a great number of years in caring for the welfare of Hikurangi and for several years was town clerk. He was held in high esteem by every resident in the district. A vote of condolence with the family was recorded and a message of sympathy conveyed to Miss Rust. The function of the meeting was really to clean up business before the end of the financial year, March 31. Reference was made to the number of accidents that had occurred on the concrete bridge in King Street and, as a preventive measure, it was decided to prohibit parking for a distance of two chains on the north side. Notices to this effect are to be posted. As a result of a recent car accident the verandah on the boardinghouse in George Street is in a dangerous state and the owner' is to be requested to have the structure made safe. Ngatoa Lodge Affairs. At the conclusion of the fortnightly meeting of the Ngatoa Rebekah Lodge on Monday evening, about 52 guests and members enjoyed themselves playing bridge and whist. One player at each table was presented with a small gift and a dainty supper was served. At the meeting, P.N.G. Sister Thomas presided in the absence of N.G. Sister Wells. Mrs T. Sloan’s Eightieth Birthday. The members of the P.W.M.U. and friends gathered in the Presbyterian Church Hall recently to convey their congratulations to Mrs T. Sloan on attaining her 80th birthday. On behalf of those present. Mrs Rarity presented Mrs Sloan with a handbag, at the same time speaking in glowing terms of the fine work she had done for the missions and the church. She had been an inspiration to all members by her constant interest and attendance at all meetings dealing with church affairs. Mrs Bricrly then presented Mrs Sloan with a beautiful bouquet. In replying, Mrs Sloan, thanked the members for their kind gifts, and said that it had always been a great joy for her to assist the church. Musical items, and afternoon tea, at which the cake, decorated with 80 candles was cut, brought the function to a close.

Methodist Harvest Festival,

The Methodist Church held its annual thanksgiving festival service on Sunday, when the Rev. Hanna addressed an excellent congregation. On Monday evening the sale of fruit, produce and home cookery took place, and the church funds were considerably augmented as a result of the effort.

“Y” Club Activities,

The monthly meeting of the “Y” Club took place in the Presbyterian Church hall on Tuesday evening. The usual business was transacted. Miss G.

Ross presiding. Mr Hanna then addressed the meeting, his subject being “Citizenship.” Games and supper concluded the meeting. Personalia. Mr and Mrs O. D. Weir returned home on Tuesday at the conclusion of a three weeks’ holiday in Hikurangi and Whananaki. Mr G. D. Lawrie, accompanied by his sister, Mrs E. Scott, of Hamilton, arrives tomorrow to spend Easter in Hikurangi. Mr Lawrie is to be the guest of Mrs R. A.' Dickson, Otonga.

Smith and Mrs and their children are home again at the conclusion of a fortnight’s holiday at Ngunguru.
