Paparoa

A pleasant gathering took place in the Garrison Hall, Paparoa, on Tuesday evening last, when Mr D. Semple, the efficient and popular postmaster who has served the district for the past 4\ years, was tendered a public farewell. During his term of office, Mr Semple has combined a most kindly and obliging disposition with the discharge of his duties, and has won widespread esteem in the community. Music for the dancing was provided by the Maungaturoto Railway Orchestra, and a bountiful supper was served by the ladies. During an interval, Mr T. C. Aickin, op behalf of the residents of Paparoa and surrounding districts, made a presentation to the guest of the evening of a wallet of notes. He said that during his control of the Paparoa Post Office, Mr Semple had made himself indispensable, and much regret was felt at his departure. In addition to efficiency in his post office duties he had taken an active interest in district sports, which was much appreciated. He congratulated Mr Semple, however, on the fact that his departure meant promotion,- hence changes in the department had to come. Mr Aickin said he was glad that in his removal to Waipu, Mr Semple would not be far away, and they should have the pleasure of seeing him frequently, in the intercourse of sport. Mr Aickin also paid a tribute to Mrs Semple, whose bright face and smile had often cheered the people as they passed the post office. Mr Semple, on behalf of himself. Mrs Semple, and the children tendered his sincere thanks for the kind expressions and gift, and said he hoped to frequently see his Paparoa friends again.
