The course proper, on which the poles were 40ft out, the No. 3 grass, and tan tracks were available for fast wdrk, but practically all galloping was done on the first-named track.

The best efforts of the morning were those of Scotland, Mazir, Kelly, Tooley Street, and Francis Drake. The Course Proper. Kilonsoa (Wiggins) 3 had Tooley Street (Gilchrist) as a companion over six furlongs, which occupied 1.16 2-5. It was the best of the morning over the distance, and * Tooley Street, who had an advantage in weight, beat his companion by over four lengths. Aero Queen (Moody) was going comfortably while traversing the last six furlongs of her work in 1.23 4-5. Seven Seas (Gilchrist )ran home from the five furlong post in 1.5 4-5. Impasto is not a good track worker and little notice can be taken of his effort.

Armacourt (Vaughan) was going better than Tybalt (Gilchrist) with High Tea further back at the conclusion of a mile run in 1.43 4-5. They ran the last seven furlongs in 1.30, and Armacourt was full of running when the post was reached. Laughing Lass (B. H. Morris), Lagoon (Tremain), Cerne Abbas (McTavish) and Tail Light (Cole), were in that order after traversing a mile in 1.43 3-5. The inside grass, with the poles 18ft cut, was in use for fast work at Takanini this morning while the plough track was also available. The • going was good.
