Martara, Brilliant Three-year-old, Changes Hands I Special to “Northern Advocate.’*! AUCKLAND, This Day. Negotiations for the purchase of Martara have been completed. Two commissioners have been making overtures, and it is stated that 3000 guineas has been offered and accepted. Martara is a three-year-old gelding by Martarma, winner of the Great Northern Derby, from Taraheke, by Paladin, and was bred by Mr J. Porter, of Little River, Canterbury. He is owned by Mr C. W. Boyd,' of Palmerston North, for whom he is trained by G. New. This season he won the Maiden Stakes, six furlongs, at Masterton; the Novice Handicap, seven furlongs, at Trentham; the Trial Stakes, five furlongs, at Rangitikei; the Bolton Handicap, one mile and a quarter, at Woodville; the Douro Cupi one mile, at Trentham; the Summer Handicap, one mile and a quarter, at Trentham; the Taranaki Cup, one mile and a quarter; and the Autumn Handicap, one mile and three furlongs, at Trentham, while he was also second in the New Zealand St. Leger Stakes on the same course to Wild Chase. He is expected to arrive at Ellerslie tomorrow moiming. It is not known whether he will keep his engagements at the Auckland Racing Club’s autumn meeting, where he is engaged in the Easter Handicap, the President’s Handicap and the Great Northern St. Leger.
