HAS THE MINISTER FORGOTTEN?

I North’s Place In Centenary Celebrations i j Direction as to what the council i should do, when, after sending a delegation to wait upon a Minister of the Crown on a most important subject, no reply had been received, was sought at the meeting of the Whangarei Borough Council last night by Cr. A. T. Brainsby. He was referring to matters placed before the Minister in charge of Tourist and Publicity Departments, the Hon. F. Langstone upon his visit to Whangarei during the first week of February. “We put the case before him with all the power and courtesy we could command, ’* Mr. Brainsby remarked. “A month has passed and apparently no notice has been taken of our representations and no' reply has been given to them.” The deputy-mayor, Mr. G. H. Morrish; We are entitled to some reply. The Minister promised that consideration would be given to our representations, and, before taking any drastic action, we should draw the attention of the Minister to the fact that we are still awaiting a response. Our representatives, when waiting upon Mr. Langstone, made a special feature of the Waitangi celebrations. Cr. Brainsby: And rightly so. The Government is carrying on making the arrangements for the Waitangi celebrations at the 100 years anniversary, and the North is being left out. As the cradle of New Zealand’s history, the North deserves especial consideration. Lord Bledisloe made a present of the Treaty House and Estate, and I am sure he would be painfully disappointed if celebrations of this mature were carried out elsewhere.
