The death occurred in the Wairoa Hospital on Friday night of a married man, aged 28, a Maori resident of Mohaka, the cause of death being infantile paralysis; TTae man had been an inmate of the hospital for about a week as a suspect, and was being treated for the disease. This is the first cases of paralysis in the district. Palmerston Norths —A suspected infantile paralysis case, a boy aged 13, from Aorangi, who was admitted to hospital on Friday, has not been diagnosed at positive. There are now four cases in hospital. The Taonui school, near Aorangi, has been closed as a precaution. There are no cases in the city. . _ Hastings. —TwcT further cases of infantile paralysis were reported during the wdSk-end to the health authorities in Hastings. Both were definitely positive. One of the patients is a six-year-old boy and the other a two-year-old girl. Both are living at Hastings. There have now been seven cases reported ill Hastings and surrounding, districts since the first case was reported three weeks ago. Gisborne.—' The Minister of Health the Hon. P. Fraser, has directed that the annual hui at Nuhaka of the Latter Day Saints be abandoned as. a precaution against the spread of infantile paralysis. :i It had been expected that between 1900 and 2000 Maoris would assemble for the annual ceremony, which had been a feature of Nuhaka’s summer season for some years.
