ELECTRICITY’S PART IN BRITAIN’S DEFENCE

The electricity industry has been congratulated by. the Minister for the Co-ordination of Defence, Sir Thomas Inskip, on the, part it is playing in forwarding the defence,, of the country. Bin Thomas said today' that electricity was taking a greater part in the manufacture of munitions than was the case at the height of the demand during the Great War.

, Lord Eltisley, president of the British Electrical iD;evelopment Association, said that ten- years ago England was generating units of electricity a year. Last year more than 20,000,000,000 units were generated.

The numbers of houses wired ■ for electricity increased by 2,300,000 during the past four years. In the use of electrical cookers proportionately to its population, Britain led the world. Progress had been made towards rural electrification, and about 30,000 farms were now supplied with electricity.
