ROWERS RELAX OVER HOLIDAYS

TRAINING FOR REGATTA STARTS I THIS WEEK The eyes of the Whangare; Rowing Club and its members ai'e set cn the regatta at Kioreroa next month. Not only local but outside rowers also have been in steady training, hut over Christmas and New Year there has been a general let-up on account of so many being away on holiday. Activities should get back to normal this week, however, and it will be interesting to see how the crews shape with the big flutter only a few weeks distant. Herb Hannam is training assiduously for the single sculls race and is coming back to ins old self again very nicely. This event carries a gold cup. donated by Mr. Thomas Burns, of Auckland, and the last win* » ner of this splendid trophy was W. A. Stevenson, of the Wmtematu Boating Club, who succeeded at the last Onerahi regatta hi 1931. Tom Clarke and Charlie Storey settle down to strict tr-nuing this week f-r the maiden double scuds, in which event their prospects are considered particularly bright.
