ROMANTIC FILM AT REGENT Tenderly enacted by an imposing cast starring Warner Baxter and Myrna Loy, with lan Hunter, Claire Trevor and Jean Dixon also featured, “To Mary—With Love” easily ranks as one of the most important, timely and appealing films ever produced. As different from the ordinary picture as night from day, “To Mary—With Love” is the tale of a gallant, glorious love, and of two sweethearts who find what the years can do, even to a romance like theirs. The bitter and sweet, the heartache and happiness which come to all lovers, are faithfully portrayed and even when your eyes are dimmed by the troubles of this couple, your lips laugh with their triumphs. Shortly after Myrna and Baxter are married, Baxter becomes involved in an affair with Claire Trevor which almost disrupts the romance. lan Hunter, Myrna’s childhood playmate, who idolises her, stands by the pair in the trouble and eventually a second hurt also passes. The wild, mad days of 1929 wipe out Baxter’s fortune and He and Myrna are live in a small, shabby suburban cottage. Again Hunter steps in, convinces Baxter of his ability and renews Myrna’s faith in her husband. Then comes what is perhaps one of the most poignant and moving scenes ever recorded on the screen. It is Christmas Eve. Myrna has prepared an elaborate dinner in celebration of Baxter’s new job. Eagerly she awaits his homecoming. The hours pass, the dinner grows cold. Baxter, in the meantime, finds he has been discharged. On the way home, he again meets Claire Trevor and they go off on an all-night party. Myrna, in tears, resolves to leave Baxter, but matters are straightened out eventually.
