THE PROCESSION FROM PAVILION TO WICKET
lUnited Press Association.—By Electric T e le graph. — Copyright. ] (Received 10 a.m.) BRISBANE, December 9. The first test match between England and Australia was completed today, England securing an easy victory by 322 runs. The weather was cloudy * and unsettled. Rain overnight and a heavy downpour early this morning greatly affected the wicket, which was in a bad condition this morning. It was realised that the game had swung definitely in England’s favour, but few anticipated the debacle that was witnessed in Australia’s second ( innings today. Against the fast attack of the Englishmen, the Australian batsmen were all at sea. Some of them, including Bradman, were unlucky in being dismissed through the ball kicking up. The loss of Fingleton just prior to the end of yesterday’s play probably had a distinct moral effect on the Australians, whose task was not made easier by the dismissal of Bradman before he had scored. From then on it was just a procession from the pavilion to the wicket, with Chipperfield standing out as the only batsman with any degree of confidence. The success of the English bowlers recalled the devastating work performed by Larwood and Voce during the previous tour of Australia. Voce took four wickets for 16 runs and Allen five for 36. The bowlers were aided in their work by good fielding. Scores:— •
