WELLINGTON, This Day.
Arrangements for a New Zealand delegation to visit Australia to attend a wool conference there in January were made at the first meeting of the New Zealand Wool Publicity Committee yesterday. The committee will be represented at the conference by the chairman, Mr H. M. Christie, M.P., Mr Bernard H. Tripp, Timaru, and the Director-General of Agriculture, Mr A. H. Cockayne. The con Terence will be attended by representatives of the Sodth African Wool Research Committee and the Australian Wool Council.
A committee yesterday discussed some of the major problems, facing wool, producers. It was felt that, while much could be done in New Zealand in connection with research and propaganda in the interests of wool, co-operation with similar committees in other Dominions and South America was necessary, in view of the present high prices ruling for wool.
Steps are to be taken to achieve this for it was considered that -an . inevitable result: of the present wool values would be to strengthen the position of manufacturers of substitutes for pure wool.
