DEATH OF LORD ISLINGTON

FORMER GOVERNOR OF N.Z.

The death has occurred of Lord Islington, First Baron, who was Governor of New Zealand from 1910 to 1912, at the age of 70. Sixth Baronet Poynder Dickson, he had a military and political career before coming to New Zealand. He was afterwards chairman of a Royal Commission on India public services, Under Secretary of State for the Colonies, Parliamentary Under-Secretary for India, and chairman of the National Savings Commission. He has no heir.

Lord Islington presided at a conference on slum housing held by the Association of Municipal Corporations in London, and was described by a writer as a picturesque peer who radiates geniality and 15/6 • national savings certificates.
