CONCERT AND PRIZEGIVING
WHANGAREI METHODIST SUNDAY SCHOOL
- The annual concert and prize giving of the Whangarei Methodist Sunday School was held in the Methodise Church on Monday. There was a capacity house and an enjoyable evening was spent by those present. The programme was of a very high standard, and reflected credit on both the teachers and staff. The programme was as follows: — Pianoforte solo, Ivan Owen; cantata, “Robin’s Remedy; or, The Changes of a Night,” Kindergarten; recitation. Peggy Cotterill; recitation, Joyce Molineaux; dialogue, Mrs Hills’ class, “The Homecoming”; duet, Noleen Hannan, and April McKernan; recitation, Ola Waring; dialogue, Miss Tucker’s class, “That New Colour”; recitation, Elsie McKernan; recitation, Bessie Conroy; dialogue, Miss Reed’s class, “Home is Best”; recitation, April McKernan: song, Gwenda Simons; recitation, Gordon Williams; dialogue, Mr Reed's class, “The White Hats”; . recitation, Peggy Wilson; recitation, Noleen Hannam.
At the conclusion of the concert programme, the secretary, Mr J. Hills, presented his annual report and the prizes won during the year were presented to the successful winners by the chairman, the Rev. O. Burnet. A presentation was made to Mrs Burnet as a mark of appreciation for the work done by her in training the children.
The following is the list of prizewinners:—
Kindergarten.—Boys: Gordon Williams, Brian Lawrence, Lex Anderson, Ronnie Hammond, Brian Hammond, Alan Simons. Girls; Valerie Mcllrath, Bernice Conroy, Tess McKernan, Kathleen Cotterill, Ray Gribble, Elsie McKernan. Senior School. —Miss Hirons’ class: Kathleen Hirons, Coral Conolly, Gwenda Simons, Bessie Conroy, Peggy Wilson, Ailsa Mcllrath.
Miss Reed’s class.—Noleen Hannam, Marie Wright, Joyce Molineaux, April McKernan.
Miss Tucker’s class: Greta Farrell, Betty Anderson, Olga England, Elva Conroy. Mrs Hills.—First boys’ class: Nigei McLachlan, Doug. Hannam. Second
boys’ class: Ron. Lawrence, Selwyn Stringer, Alwyn Owen. Mr Reed’s third boys class: H. Tucker, J. Hirons, D. Hamilton. Fourth boys’ class: M. Simons, I. Owen, B. Mann.
The doxology was sung at the conclusion and Mr Burnet said the Benediction.
