DEEP-SEA FISHING
THE MANGAWAI CLUB The Mangawai Deep-sea Fishing Club held a very successful and enthusiastic annual meeting on Saturday evening. Bad weather prevented a large meeting, but those members present made up for lack of numbers in their enthusiasm. The coming season’s prospects for big-game fishing seem excellent. Mr Franich, who owns the club launch, has already sighted several large fish just off the coast. The club’s largest fish caught in the past two seasons are:—Mako shark, 3351b5. (Mr E. Lambess, of Whangarei); Black Marlin, 3171b5. CDr. Horton, of Auckland), who also landed another mako shark of 2401b5. These fish were all caught from the launch Marina.
As new and up-to-date equipment is being obtained periodically this, club should compare favourably with any other in the Far North. The following officers were elected: —Patron, Mr J. G.‘ Barclay, M.P.; president, Dr. Horton, Auckland; vice-presidents, Messrs Nelson and Franich; secretary and treasurer, Mr W. Harwcod (Wellsford).
