N.Z. HORSES RETURN FROM AUSTRALIA

Late Sporting

(Special to "Normern Advocate.”] AUCKLAND. This Day.

The New Zealand nories, Silver Ring, Plaidie ai d II Buce, who have been racing in Australreturned, from Melbourne this morning by the Wanganella. They all did well on the trip, an:l have held their condition.

J. Stewart, trainer of Silver Ring, stated that the horses had bad a strenuous campaign in Australia and and won three races, besides gaining two third places. Just prior to the Melbourne Cup, Stive** Ring suffered a touch of rheumatism, while a stone bruise also developed in his foot. This naturally affected his chances at the big Flemington meeting, and the horse’s connections were not surprised when he failed to show up. A bar shoe has been fitted to the injured shoe, and he appears to be making satisfactory progress. He is to remain at Ellerslie in the meantime and, should he make the desired improvement, it is intended to race the son of Silverado at the Auckland summer meeting. If he contests the cup, he will probably be ridden by the South Island horseman, D. O’Connor. Plaidie and II Duce are also to remain at Ellerslie, and they will fulfil engagements at the Auckland meeting. II Duce was raced on several occasions in Australia, but a second placing was the best he could do. Pladie secured a third placing.
