FOLLOWING his arrest on Monday night on charges of theft. William Herbert Chapman, aged 56, escaped from custody at 7 o’clock yesterday morning and is still at large, says a Hastings message. Chapman, who was in the lock-up, framed sickness and was allowed out for a walk in the fresh air. When the constable’s bacK was turned he made off. —P.A.
