CASES BLOWN OFF LORRY KILL MAN

[Per Press Association. Copyright.'] WELLINGTON, This Day. As the result of being struck by a full motor case blown off a lorry crossing the Hutt pipe bridge, Mr Robert Ritchie, of Petone, a labourer, was killed yesterday.

The lorry, belonging to Messrs Barton and Ginger, was proceeding to a mc-tor company’s works and when passing Mr Ritchie was struck by an exceptionally heavy gust and two cases were blown oft’.

One of the cases pinned Mr Ritchie’s head to the footpath and death must have been instantaneous.

The bridge is fully exposed to the wind, and when there is a gale traffic is severely buffeted. Deceased was a married man with one child and worked at the Hutt railway workshops.
