CAMERON STREET GAP ON ROAD TO PORT

At the last meeting of the Whangarei Borough Council a letter 'was received from the Whangarei Harbour Board advising that shipping which would require road communication would commence to arrive at the deep sea port in January next. It was expected that, within the next two months, the new road formation would be fit to carry traffic in dry weather. There was still a gap at Lower Cameron Street, however, which required filling. In order to facilitate matters, the Harbour Board had reserved and would make available to the council the land at Lower Cameron Street which would be required for road purposes. The question was referred to the legal and finance committee, which reported last night that, as all the information was not available at present, the matter had been held over until the next meeting of the council. On the motion of the Mayor. Mr W; Jones, it was decided to refer the subject to the works committee, with the exception of the last paragraph of the letter. Mr Tlones said that the council had owned the land for the past six or seven months, but evidently the I Harbour Board had not been keeping I in touch with that part of the work.
