NORTHLAND TRIBE

“Advocate” Office, Water St., Whangarei, Tuesday, December 1, 1936.

Dear Northlanders. The last month of the year! Already there’s a Christmassy atmosphere at Headquarters, for all hands are busy going through the scores of entries received for the special contributions contest.* Just as was expected, Young Northlanders rallied round in grand style, and, in our Christmas number, we can promise you a real thrill. After this year the Proficiency will be no more. The announcement that this examination was to be abolished must have sounded like music to the ears of most boys and girls, for somehow the “Pro.” has , caused more worry than any other Primary School test. Most certainly it wasn’t popular. As the writer of the obituary notices might remark: “We’re marking its demise by a' suitable memorial.” This is t a mock proficiency paper, prepared more especially for Calf. Club members, but out of which all Young Northlanders will derive a lot of fun. And now about the Kupe Club. < In our first year we have made great progress. Scores of blue, silver and green badges are worn throughout Northland, and we can claim to be the biggest club for boys and girls in North Auckland. Still we must grow. “The more the merrier” is our motto: the larger our roll the morfe people with whom we can share happiness and the stronger our army of , helpers when it comes to our campaigns for bringing sunshine into the lives of others. To-day we’re announcing a special contest for Club members, and feel quite confident-—the Princess and I—-that the Club roll will swell tremendously as a result. At least we know that our loyal followers will rally round, and with their help the thousand mark should easily be touched and passed before the Kupe Club celebrates its very first birthday. Cheerio and best wishes to you all.

Rangatira, Northland Tribe.
