NORTHLAND TRIBE

“Advocate” Office, Water St., Whangarei, Tuesday, December 1, 1936. Hello Everybody, I had a very thrilling holiday last week, thank you very much. Don’t you think I deserved one? I’m quite certain about it, though Kupe seemed to think I was rather unreasonable. I nearly had another this week, for the Calf Club column, began to show signs of spreading all over the page. However, my special corner was saved, so I’ll be able to tell you about my trip. I travelled ever so much further than Kupe did. His journey was less than a hundred miles, while mine covered thousands. I can’t possibly cram into one letter all the places I visited and the sights I saw—crowded beaches at Sydney—palm-bedecked islands at Fiji—sunlit blue seas and wonderful brown swimmers at Honolulu—crowds and noise at Vancouver—lnteresting _ train journey miles and miles across Canada, sleeping in the most amusing Pullman cars. Then on board once more and away to the Homeland and a fascinating tour round England and Scotland—but I’d need the whole page to tell you everything. Magic Carpets did your murmur? No, but nearly. You see, I spent my holiday visiting a friend who has recently returned from a wonderful trip to England. Her books, and pictures and interesting stories made everything so real I seemed to be travelling with her. Perhaps some day I’ll really go. But in the meantime I had a lovely holiday—much better than Kupe’s. Cheerio till next week.
