N.Z. BUTTER WANTED IN HAWAII
FOOD SHORTAGE FOLLOWS
SHIPPING STRIKE
fSpecial to ‘’Northern Advocate."! AUCKLAND, This Day. “It is an ill wind that blows nobody good!”-
Owing to the U.S. maritime strike Hawaii is practically cut off from America, and the result is increased shipments of foodstuffs from Auckland to Honolulu.
Last week came a persistent demand from Honolulu for dairy produce and 5000 boxes of butter will go into the hold of the Aorangi before she sails on December 8. The seriousness of the position can be gauged from the fact that the United States Government has suggested that, if necessary, it will supply special steamers to ensure sufficient food supplies. The- Dominion has had a good market for butter in Honolulu for many years, but the demand has at least doubled for this shipment, and several merchants have been unable to obtain an option on space in the Aorangi.
