ON ELLERSLIE TRACKS

THIS MORNING’S WORK

[Special to “Northern Advocate”! AUCKLAND, This Day..

The weather was fine at Ellerslie this morning until just about half an hour before work was completed, when rain set in and continued for the remainder of the trials.

No. 2 grass and the two-year-old tracks were open and the going was good.

Rerepai was the first to work, galloping brilliantly over half a mile. He ran the first furlong in 12 2-s?ec and completed the distance in 48 2-ssec. He was doing it nicely at the finish, and the effort showed that he still retains his speed. Kilonsoa, after running her first two furlongs in 26 2rssec, got to the end of five furlongs in 1.5. She worked well and had a bit in reserve. Knight of Australia was going well within himself while running six furlongs in 1.22 1-5. ' ,

Pair Go Well.

Ringshot was just ahead of Whirlmint and Roman Mascot at the end of a round which occupied 1.46. . The last six furlongs took 1.18 and the final half-mile 51 4-ssec. It was a good work-out on the part of each of them. Morning Sun got to the end of six furlongs in 1.17 1-5, after running the first three in 38 1-5, Horowhenua and Salva went a similar distance in 1.17 1-5. They covered the first three in 39 l-ssec, and Salva shaped well for a novice. Dialogue ran the last three furlongs of his work in 40 l-ssec. He could have improved on that time. Royal Appellant and Tin Lap reeled off three furlongs in 37 3-5. There was not much between them at the end. Lady Diana strode home from the half-mile post in 54 2-ssec, doing it comfortably. Speedfast came home from the five-furlongs post in 1.15. Gay Broney Improves.

Gay Broney was timed to run six furlongs in 1.19 3-5, the last halfmile taking 53 l-ssec. This horse has come along very fast during the last couple of weeks.

Waitaki was not extended while traversing five furlongs in 1.6 4-5. Valmint, after taking 40 3-ssec, for the first three furlongs, completed six in 1.21 3-5. He put more dash into his work than usual. There was little between Lone Flier and Red Ledger in an easy three furlongs which took 425. Valspear worked very easily while covering six furlongs in 1.22, the first three taking 41sec. Bon Star impressed more than Silver Sound at the conclusion of five furlongs in 1.5. They ran the first two in 25 2-osec, and Bon Star was staying ■on at the finish. Benighted, who went away in front of the five furlong post, was timed to run his last half-mile in 51 2-ssec. Marjory Daw and Carshalton ran their first furlong in 12 2-ssec, and got to the end of four in 49 3-5. Marjory Daw had an advantage at the finish but Carshalton, who had schooled previously, also worked well. Survey trotted round to the three furlong post and sprinted home in 37 3-ssec. Lady Gainsborough was allotted a similar task, taking 41 3-ssec. She has had little fast work and the gallop should improve her. Two-Year-Olds. On the two-year-old track Huntingmore beat Miss Appellant by a good margin over three furlongs. Which occupied 36 4-ssec. Huntingmore has not yet raced but shows plenty of speed. Other horses to do useful work were Gay Defence, High Star, Jack Tar,

Kelly, Vera Acre, All Irish, Aero King, and Huntsman’s Chorus. - The only horse schooled during the morning was Carshalton, who jumped two pony hurdles encouragingly on two occasions.
