While their victims were asleep bandits strangled with a steel wire Michael Madonitz, a wealthy proprietor, his wife and four children, Of a .bakery in the central area of Galatz, stole a quantity of bread, rifled a safe of money and jewels and placed their victims in ovens, intending to Incinerate them, but fled without turning on the heat.
