HEAVY YARDING OF CATTLE IN NORTH
BIG SALES AT OHAEAWAI AND KAIKOHE
An exceptionally heavy yarding came forward at the Ohaeawai stock sale on Thursday, according to the report of the North Auckland Farmers’ Co-op. Ltd. The auctioneering firms had to empty the pens after the beef had been sold, and refill them with store cattle. \
Competition was slightly easier for beef, but all other classes sold exceptionally well. Heavy fat bullocks brought £ll to £ll 15/; medium, £9 to £lO 12/6; light, £7 10/ to £8 17/6; heavy fat cows, £7 to £9 2/6; medium, £6 to £6 15/; forward condition cows, £4 10/ to £4 12/6; best dairy cows, £5 10/ to £7; medium, £4 to £5 7/6; backward and inferior cows, £3 to £3 15/; best dairy heifers, £6 to £7 2/6; medium," £3 15/ to £5 15/; smaller and backward, £2 to £3 5/; aged Devon breeding cows, £4 16/; two-year Devon heifers, £3 16/ to £4 9/; yearling, £2 'l3/ to £2 16/; yearling Devon steers, £4 5/ to £4 12/; 3year Shorthorn steers, £6 10/ to £7 2/6; 2-year, £5 2/6 to £5 12/6; yearling, £3 15/ to £4, 1/; yearling Jersey heifers, £2 10/ to £3 15/. Ewe hoggets, 32/6; wether hoggets, 27/; ewes and lambs, 35/6. Weaner pigs, £1 to 22/3; slips, 24/ to 26/; Stores, 28/ to 31/6.
At Kaikohe yesterday, the North Auckland Farmers’ Co-op. Ltd. again had a heavy yarding. No very good beef came forward and competition was a bit slack. / Heavy fat cOws Were worth £6 to £7, 5/; one barren heifer, from Mr. W. Imms, £lO 10/; light fat cows, £4 15/ to £5 7/; freshconditioned cows, £3 17/6 to £4 2/6; store cows, £3 to £3 12/; boner cows, 35/ to ,£2 2/; 2-year Black Polled heifers, 4| to 8 gns.; cows and calves, £3 12/ to £5 !/; Shorthorn cows, r.w.b., £3 10/ to £3 13/; yearling Jersey heifefs, £2 7/6 to £2 19/; 3year Black Polled Bull, ex W. Imms, 25 gns.; other Black Polled and He'reford bulls, 7 to 12 gns.; Shorthorn bulls, 5 to 7 gns.; Jersey bulls, grades, £4 to ,£7; inferior bulls, £2 to £3 15/.
