RUSSELL

METHODIST QUARTERLY MEETING.

The Russell Methodist quarterly meeting was held in the church on Wednesday night, when there were present: Rev. R. E. Patehett (chairman), and Mesdames Mundy, F. Baker, Arnold, Rummins and McMinn, Miss M. King, and Messrs. J. Armitage, J. McMinn, D. H. Woodcock and Mundy.

It was resolved that letters of sympathy regarding the loss of members of the families, be sent to the following: Mr Donaldson, late schoolfnaster, of Opua, concerning the death of his son; also incorporating the appreciation of the Church for the hospitality and work done by both Mr and Mrs Donaldson for the Opua branch of the circuit; to Miss Holt, expressing the sympathy of the Church regarding the recent loss of her mother.

A letter of encouragement and remembrance was sent to Miss Nita York, who had that day gone to Auckland for a serious operation; and one of thanks and appreciation to Miss Gourdie, who, during the quarter, had left Russell, and was transferred to Pitt Street Methodist Church. It was resolved that the late Mr H. Arnold’s death be recorded in the minutes.

The membership roll stands at five infants, 14 juniors, and 21 seniors. The loss of .one through transfer was made up by a request by Mrs Charles Pearle to be enrolled, this being unanimously granted.

It was resolved that the generous anonymous gift during the quarter of four day hymn-books (words only), and eleven (words and music) be recorded with appreciation on the minute book.

The appointment of a supernumery to Russell, which was resolved at last quarter’s meeting, was confirmed. Representatives were requested for the Synod to be held in Auckland. This resulted in the Rev. R. E. Patchett being nominated as the only one available.

Of special interest was the prospect of a visit from the Maori Choir, which has returned from a triumphal tour of Australia, and which is to leave on a return request trip, and then continue through the United States of America and Great Britain.

The auditors, Messrs. W. C. Anderson and J. were unanimously re-elected.

Summertime alteration from 7 p.m. to 7.30 will be in force on the first Sunday in December.

It is stated that there is the possibility that the Clansman will make on Wednesdays the usual call made on Tuesdays. The company’s representative says that owing to the difficulty in Auckland of coping with the large consignments to be unloaded and then loaded, it has been deemed necessary, in the near future to inaugurate the changed service as stated. The number of cycles in Russell is approximately 25. This growth has taken place in a very short time.
