CANADIAN DEFENCE SCHEME
(Received 10 a.m.) NEW YORK, October 21
The Ottawa correspondent of the “New York Times” says he has received information that the Prime Minister of Canada, Mr W. L. Mackenzie King, who is now in London, has outlined plans to the British authorities for enlarging Canada’s fleet and developing a strong air force. It is strictly a national scheme and calls for the possible enlargement of coastal armaments, for' submarines, for fast destroyers, and possibly for a few cruisers, but not battleships. The new plans, in connection with which chief reliance is placed on a greatly enlarged air force, are expected to increase Canada’s defence Budget to 50,000,000 dollars.
