MOEREWA
The official opening »of the Moerewa Tennis Club’s court took place last Saturday, when the weather* was- all that could be desired. Visitors were present from Kaikohe, Orauta and Kawakawa. Messrs. Shepherd, Ellis and Rodgers, were in charge of the games.
The club president, Mr G. Arnold, extended a hearty welcome to the visitors and voiced the pleasure it gave the club to see so many people present. He presented the Simson Rose Bowl, donated by the late Mr Simson, formerly the club patron, for annual presentation to the winner of the ladies’ singles championship, to Mrs Gundry, who suitably responded. Mr Arnold then called on Mrs Kelly to play the first balk a task performed by her each year since the inauguration of the club.
The courts were kept fully occupied till evening, mixed foursomes of 15 minutes’ duration being played. A dainty afternoon tea was provided by the Moerewa ladies/ and was handed round to those seated on the forms provided on the lawns, besides in the pavilion, gaily decorated with flowers and filled to capacity.
