Shipping House Flag. For the first time, a shipping company is displaying its house flag above its offices in Whangarei, coming into line with the usual practice in larger seaport towns. The flag is that of the Union Steam Ship Company, and is flying from the Whangarei agency.

Phillips Shield Croquet. During the week a match was played at the Kensington Croquet Club’s lawns for the Phillips Shield, between Hikurangi (challengers) and Kensington (holders). Kensington retained the shield after a very enjoyable match. Mrs Walker, of the Whangarei club acted as umpire and timekeeper.

Weasels And Stoats.

Car Somersaults Over Bank.

A rather lucky escape from injury came the way of Mr F. O’Callaghan, of Hikurangi, and Mr N. Dunn, of Whangarei, on a recent night. They were returning home by car from a dance at Opuawhanga when the steer-ing-gear failed and the car somersaulted over a bank. The vehicle was considerably damaged, but neither occupant suffered any ill-effect.

The Auckland Education Board has fixed the following dates for the terms of its primary schools for 1937: First term, Monday, February 1, to Friday, May 7; second term, Monday, May 24, to Friday, August 2!); third term, Monday, September 6, to Friday, December 17. The te'rms for the board’s only technical high school, Otahuhu, will be from February 2 to May 7, May 25 to August 20. and September 14 to December 17.
