PROGRESSIVE SPIRIT IN TENNIS
MORE INTER-CLUB COMPETITIONS PLANNED
At a meeting of the management committee of the North Auckland Lawn Tennis Association last evening, further proposals were discussed with a view to improving the game in Whangarei.
In addition to the local inter-club competitions, the rules governing which were discussed' and finalised, two further competitions are to be conducted this season.
The first is an inter-house competition between firms and organisations in the town. This is to be conducted on similar lines to the competition operating in Auckland, and will commence during next month. Catering For Schools.
The other project is to cater for schools in the Whangarei area, and will be played on Saturday mornings on the association courts. Several schools have intimated their desire tb participate and all schools will be advised of the competition within the next few weeks. .
At the present time, however, the local inter-club competitions for which entries have already been received from 26 teams, are occupying the full energies of the committee and both these projects will be proceeded with as soon as time permits. The association courts (four of the courts of the Whangarei Club) will be used for the first time in a week or so, when a town and country match will be staged. Selection of team' 3 , and arrangements for the match are in the hands of the chairman of the management committee (Mr K. Hayr> and Mr A. D, King.
