SLOWING OF BUSINESS

Business on the Exchange has slowed up since last report, but bidding stays steady for a good range of securities, and values show little change. Most Australian banks continue firm, N.S.W. having buyers at £35, and sellers with lower limits at £35 10/-. An exception was the Bank of Adelaide, which sold at £5 19/6,'' a drop of 15/6 since May. New Zealands were a shade weaker, selling at £2 2/-, with a later market befween £2 19/- and £3 2/6. Among Breweries N.Z.’s gained 2d in business ,at £2 10/9, with later buyers at £2 10/6, and sellers at £2 11/3.

Australian Glass responded to the dividend announcement, having buyers 6d higher at £4 15/3 and sellers at £4' 16/3. Electro Zincs were weaker, having buyers 1/3 lower for ordinary and prefs. at £2 5/9 and £2 7/9, and sellers in both cases at yesterday’s buying rate. Waldas Shoes sold 6d higher at 39/6, and Dunlops had buyers at 18/3, with sellers 2d above.

In the Government section, values ■were weaker. The 55 issue bf both bonds and stocks had sellers at £lO6, as compared with recent sales up to £lO6 10/- ,and the 46’s and 49’s had sellers at £404, at which figure sales have been made during the week. A feature of, a busy noon call was a drop in the long term issue, in Government securities, the 52-55 bonds selling 17/6 lower, at £lO5 10/-, and the stock—a parcel with two transfers —at £lO5 5/-, a fall of £ls/-. In the banking, Commercials touched their highest for some time with sellers at 18/8| and , 18/8. Buyers for Banks of itfew South Wales dropped 5/—to £34 15/-. _

New Zealand Breweries maintained their firming tend, with a sale 6d higher at £2 11/3, and a later market between £2 11/- and £2 li/6. Electro Zinc recovered with business for the ordinaries at £2 6/3, and for the prefs 2/- higher. Mt Lyalls were very firm, and changed hands at 33/6, compared with 32/3 last week.
