In their report of a clearing sale conducted at Maungatapere yesterday on account of Mr C. Stevens, Jnr., the North Auckland Farmers’ Co-op., Ltd. state that there was good competition Cor the grade Jersey dairy herd and prices were on a par with late rates. Cows in milk realised from £5 10/ to £9; inferior cows, £3 to £5 5/; springing cows, £7 2/6; boner cows, £1 15/; yearling heifers, £3 15/; smaller sorts, £1 15/; empty 2-year heifers, £3 17/; 2-year bull, Hgns; yearling bull, gns. Store pigs, 32/; sows to farrow, £3.

REPORT All vegetables are scarce, with a good demand and a consequent rise in prices. Quotations: —Cabbage, 1/6 to 5/6 per doz; cauliflower, 1/ to 6/ per doz; lettuce, 1/ to 2/ per doz; celery, 1/ to 1/6 per doz bundles; rhubarb, 3/ to 4/ per doz bundles; carrots, 5/6 to 6/6 per sugarbag; parsnips, 5/ to 6/ per sugarbag; leeks, *6d to 1/ per doz; pumpkin, 27/6 per cwt; potatoes, 11/ to 12/ per cwt; onions, 12/ to 14/ per cental bag.

Apples and oranges becoming hard to procure, with a good demand, with lemons almost a glut. Quotations:— Delicious, 5/6 to 6/6 per case; Granny Smith, 8/6. to 10/ per case; Statesman, 7/6 to 9/6 per case; Sturmers, 9/6 to 10/6 per case; Poormans, 5/6 to 7/ per case; lemons, 2/6 to 5/ per case. A fair yarding of poultry met with a good demand. Quotations:— Heavy breed hens, 2/6 to 4/; medium breed hens, 2/ to 3/; light breed hens, 1/6 to 2/; heavy breed cockerels, 2/6 to 4/6; medium breed cockerels, 2/6 to 3/3; light breed cockerels, 1/6 to 2/6; ducks, 1/3 to 2/3; cockerel chicks, 3/ to 10/ per doz. NORTH BROKEN HILL PROFIT (Received 10 a.m.) SYDNEY, October 22. North Broken Hill, Ltd., Melbourne, earned a net profit for the year ended June 30 of £636,940, compared with £390,683 in the previous year. Dividends of 15/6 a share absorbed £524,000. GOLD AND SILVER QUOTATIONS (Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, October 21. Fine gold is quoted today at £7 2/li an ounce, compared with £7 2/3 yesterday. Silver is qudted at 19 15-16 dah ounce spot and forward, compared with 19 11-16 d, both positions, yesterday.

The quotation for silver at per fine ounce is 21 3-Bd, compared with 2Ud yesterday.
