During the week-end, an open tournament was held by the Oruru Golf Club. Considering the bad weather, everything went off splendidly. The results are as follows: Championship Cup, over 36 holes, W. Christensen first, with a score of 148; R. Edmonds, runner-up, with 149; and A. Christensen, third, with 150. The medal match, over 18 holes, played in the morning, resulted in a win for Tom Wilton, with W. Dyer next. The Stapleford bogey was won by C. J. E. Barriball (38), the next best score being A. Christensen, 37.

The eclectic match was won by R. Hoskin, with 30, the runner-up, A. Christensen, taking 31. The medal match was won by C. Smeaton. with Ron. Hoskin runner-up. The handicap teams’ match was won by Kohukohu with 275, Broadwood being next with 277. The consolation prize was won by T. Salvair.

After Mr C. J. E. Barriball, president of the Oruru Club, had briefly thanked all who had taken part, Mrs Barriball presented the trophies to the winners.

A very successful dance, run by the Oruru Leap Year Committee, was held in Carton’s Hall on Tuesday evening. There was a large attendance, visitors from as far as Kaitaia being present. The hall was beautifully decorated for the occasion with nikau palms and coloured manuka. Extras were played by Misses A. Christensen and C. Garton. The duties of M.C. were capably carried out by Mr Barriball. The prizes for the Monte Carlo waltz were won by Miss M. Forsythe and Mr T. Taylor. A dainty supper was served by the members of the Leap Year Committee. [
