“VARIETY SPICE”
The Whangarei Orphans Club present at the Town Hall on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 21 and 22, Fred Arj gyle’s new Frolic revue, “Variety Spice. This is a brand new frolic j production, a production that has i proved a wonderful success in Austra- ! ha. and lovers of good, clean comedy | are well catered for. | Those who were fortunate enough to i see “Footlight Frolics,” the last proi Auction, were over-delighted with this j bright and breezy entertainment, j Fred Argyle and Rae Williams, have j extended themselves in giving enter- | tainment lovers something out of the i ordinary. There are beautiful cosj tumes, spectacular scenic and lighting j effects. Amongst the many delightful ! song scenas are “The Gipsy Revel.” j “Love’s Roses,” “The Song of the Gren- I adiers.” j The popular Australian comedian,! i Fred Argyle. is to be seen in several ! screamingly funny sketches, prominent | j amongst which are “The House of Mys- I i tery,” ‘‘The Honeymoon Couple,” “Inj surance Office,” and “Schooldays.” In j the laughter-making he has splendid | assistance from Dolly Basley, Ken Me* I Lennan, Evan Garton and Val Valen- i j tine. j | _ Thora Warrington’s ballet will be seen lin snappy numbers. Rae Williams will ib e hoard in “Irish Song of Songs,” “When Day is Done,” and “Mary of Argyle.” The large cast of 50 includes Winnie Wilson, in a contortion specialty; Nellie Lacey and her tap ballet; Edna Langmuir in a dramatic recital, Le Belle Poquita." Another specialty will be a unique stage band presentation with Ces Wright’s Rhythm Boys. A diamatic playette of the sweetest story ever told, “The Rosary,” will be something new and original to this 1 class of entertainment. Variety Spice” will be preceded by ! an overture, “Silver Cross,” by the langarei Orphans’ Club orchestra, conducted by Mr G.
