Results: — One Mile (first three in each heat run in final tomorrow).—First heat: J. Moore 1, F, Woodergon 2, E. Ellis 3. Time, 4.24 2-5. Second heat: B. Eccles 1, D Pell ,2 J. E. Lovelock 3. Time, 4.22 4-5; Lovelock remained well back until the last Tap, and was content to qualify, which he did comfortably. Backhouse (Australia) finished a bad last. Third heat: J. Comes 1, W. Squires 2, R. Graham 3. Time, 4.20 4-5. ; 1 440 Yards Hurdles.—First heat: R. K. Brown 1, J. Stone 2. Time, 57 l-sd. Second heat: J. Sheffield 1, Ivanovic (Yugoslavia) 1 2. Time, 56 3-ss. Third heat; J. Daniel (Oxonian) 1, Watson 2. Time, 56 l-ss. First and second in heats qualified for. the final. In the 220 yards, Horsfall (Australia) was eliminated. He finished second in his heat- Jo van Beveren (Holland). Time; 22 3-ss. - Long jump.—The . following qualified for the final; K. Duncan, 22ft. Tin,; W. Breach, 21ft, 11 3-Bin.; R, Bevans; 21ft. 9in; G. Traynor/ 21st 7 3-Bin; Dickinson (Australia), 21ft sin; F. Smith, 21ft. 2 3-Bin.
A. A. Cooper won the two miles walk for a fifth sucessive time, constituting a record winning sequence. His time was 13.50.
High Jump.—The following cleared sft. lOin. and qualified for the final: E. Bradbrooke, R. Brasser (Holland), R. Kennedy, Metcalfe (Australia), S. West, T. Carlier (Holland).
Hop, Step and Jump.—Pinal; Metcalfe (Australia), 49ft. s£in, 1; Dickinson (Australia), 47ft. llfin., 2; E. Boyce (Northern Ireland)/45ft. lin., 3. The New Zealander, V. P. Boot, failed to qualify in the half mile, finishing fifth in the heat won by J. V. Powell in 1m 59 l-ss.
