The Bay of Islands Dairy Company's annual report records an exceptional:
year due to retarded production through a cold spring, and the caterpillar plague. There was a decline in production and the butter manufactured, 1179 tons 16cwt. was about 99 tons or 7.75 per cent less than the preceding : season’s record. Of the butter mad?, 1 134 tons was sold for consumption in New Zealand, 242 tons were sold f,0.b., 789 tons was exported on consignment, and the balance of about 14 tons remained on hand at the end of May.
Prices in England showed a’ marked improvement over those of the past few years. The total payment to suppliers was 12.13 d per lb. butterfat for finest grade. The directors, in conjunction with the Kaikohe Co-op. Dairy Co., decided early in the season, to re-appoint a farm dairy instructor. Mr A. E. Allen, was appointed in November. He had visited practically the whole of the districts of the two companies. During the season conditions, were unsatisfactory for the production of a high quality cream, but an improvement had been shown.
