PAKEHA V. MAORI; A AND B
TRIALS
Following as it does such splendid Rugby League club football, the attractions at Jubilee Park this Saturday are bound to draw a large crowd. It should certainly be a day of entertaining sport.
The principal drawcard is the Pakeha v. Maori match for the Walmsley Shield, and, with strong teams in the field, a spirited contest is assured. Much interest will also be centred in the senior A. and B. trial game, which will be the main curtain-raiser. A north v. south fourth-grade game will also be staged.
The senior rep. selector, Mr E. J. Parkes, in picking the pakeha and two trial teams, is testing out all the likely , Northlanders, while Mr J. Crompton has the elect of the Maoris in his thirteen. On recent form, however, B. Pitman should have been first choice as a five-eighth.
The teams as selected are:—
Pakehas: Full-back, D. Parkes (Kensington) ; three-quarters, Taylor (Hikurangi), C. Hamilton (Hikurangi), E. Hooper (Kamo); five-eighths. Hollows (City), Gordon (Portland); half, Lenne (Kamo); forwards, front row, McDonald (Kensington), E. O’Callaghan (Hikurangi), Benfell (Kensington); second row, J. Taylor (Kamo), H. Bowyer (City); breakaway, Dunn (Kensington). Reserves: L. Thorburn (Kamo) and T. Jones (City).
Maoris: Full-back, G, Mackie (Takahiwai); three-quarters, P., Mackie (Takahiwai), K. Joa'b (Kamo), T. ( Toki (Whakapara); five-eighths, W. King (Whakapara), Eru (Portland); half, S. Pitman (Takahiwai); forwards, front row, Davis (Kamo), H. Pirihi (Takahiwai), R. Jones (Whakapara); second row, B. Tauri (Kensington), TPitman (Takahiwai); breakaway, W. Rata (Takahiwai). Reserves; J. Gough (Kamo) and B. Pitman (Takahiwai)..
