SIMULTANEOUS MISSION

WHANGAREI CHURCHES COMBINE. TO BE HELD NEXT WEEK. A notable event will take place in Whangarei next week, when a simultaneous xpission will be 'held by the Presbyterian, Methodist, Baptist -and Congregational Churches and the Salvation Army. Services - will be held in each church as a separate unit, but on the final night a combined meeting will be held in the Presbyterian Church. Plans for this mission' have been in hand for some time, and not-? able missioners have been engaged. The Moderator-elect of the Presbyterian General Assembly, the Rev. T. H. Roseveare, of Papatoetoe, is coming to the Presbyterian Church. He is very musical and has recognised evangelical gifts. He stands very high in the esteem of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand and is particularly well-known in Northland, where his presence has always been sought.

The Methodist missioner is the ReV. E T. Olds, of Pitt Street, Auckland, and already well known in Whangarei. He is one of the youngest men appointed to one of the most important positions in New Zealand Methodism. He did great work in Napier after the big earthquake. Mr J. O. Sanders, of the N.Z. Bible Training Institute, will be at the Baptist Church. He was a lawyer in , practice for eight years before going to the Bible Training Institute, wherr he has been a lecturer for ten years. He is the editor of “The Reaper.” The Rev. Frank de Lisle, who is to be the missioner at the Congregational Church is a well-known figure. He is an ex-chairman of the Congregational Union, is the editor of the “Congregational Monthly,” and is the minister of the Mt. Eden Congregational Church. An old-time favourite Salvationist in Whangarei Is coming to the Salvation Army Hall. She is Mrs Major Sansom, who was stationed in this town 28 years ago. Irish by birth and extraction, she is a speaker of eloquence and power.

The mission commences on Monday evening and continues every night until Friday evening. On the following Monday all the churches will join forces in the Presbyterian Church. At Hikurangi the Anglican. Presbyterian and Methodist Churches and the Salvation Army are combining, local ministers exchanging pulpits and cooperating generally.
