SENSATIONAL SHOOTING AFFRAY
MELBOURNE POLICE CHIEF’S .ESCAPE (Received 10 a.m.) j • ' MELBOURNE, May 24. A ' sensational shooting affair is rented in which Superintendent John O’Connell Bxiophy, who began duty as chief of the Victorian, Criminal Investigation Department a week ago, was the victim. It Is stated that four shots were fired by gangsters from a car, and Sat one bullet struck Mr Brophy* cheek another his right arm, a third the back of his neck, and a fourth his chest over the heart. The last bullet was deflected by something in his pocket. He is not in a serious condition.
