RECOGNITION GRANTED

MINOR ASSOCIATION STATUS FOR NORTHLAND CRICKET

“The New Zealand Cricket Council believes that Northland is plainly entitled to be granted minor association status, and has decided to grant your application accordingly, irrespective of boundary and any other matters now under discussion with Auckland.” The reading of this communication from the New Zealand Council, ending as it did a long struggle for recognition, was received with enthusiasm at a meeting of the North Auckland Cricket Association Management Committee last night. Considering that the amalgamation of smaller minor associations, to reduce the unweildy number of 19, and to restore the balance of voting power on the New Zealand Council had been decided upon, the Auckland Associa--tion wrote withdrawing its opposition to the application. There still seems to be some misunderstanding regarding boundaries, and it was made quite clear last night that the territory for the new association will include the Rodney and Hobson Counties northwards, containing more players and a wider area than the Otago major association. It is not proposed to include Helensville and. district. New Colours. The old Northland colours of light blue having already been allocated to Nelson, colours of maroon and white stripes were decided upon. A set of Australian style caps in this design will be worn for the first time when Northland play Auckland in the representative match at Eden Park on April 11 and 13. Mr. F. H. Cowan was appointed manager of the Northland team, and Mr H. Wilson captain.
