MANGONUI

The Methodist Church held their second annual banquet and reunion at Carton's Hall on Wednesday night, and despite the most inclement weather, it happening to be the night of the cyclonic gale. 80 people were present. The Oruru Ladies' Guild were responsible for the catering, decorations, and the setting of the tables. The hall was very prettily decorated with greenery and red. white and blue streamers,'and at intervals large rosettes of similar colouring were interspersed among the greenery. The Rev. Johnson acted as toastmaster, and. at a suitable interval took the opportunity, on behalf of the Kaitaia, Oruru and Fairburn Guilds, to present Mrs John Foster, of Oruaiti, with a beautiful afternoon tea-set. Mrs Foster, who has greatly assisted the church in' many ways, will be shortly leaving to take up residence at Poroti. The following items made up the programme:—“Christian Church,” proposed by Mr J. M. Dawson; recitation by Mrs D. Archibald; “Mangonui Circuit,” proposed by Mr J. Garton. and responded to by Mr A. Tracey; “Ladies’ Guilds.”. proposed by Mr Walton and responded to by Mrs J. Garton (Oruru president). Williams (Kaitaia president); “Bible Classes and Sunday Schools.” proposed by Mrs T. J. Taylor and responded to by Mr Rhys Williams; “The Banquet Committee,” proposed by Rev. Johnson and responded to by Mrs J. Forsyth. By courtesy of Mr A. Garton. the pictures “Travels in the Far East,” and a comedy were screened. i

The pronouncing of the benediction brought to a most happy and successful close an entertainment that was carefully and painstakingly arranged and carried through.
