Swept Away In Slip
NATIVES TRAPPED IN DEBRIS .
As communication becomes re-es-tablished, additional details of storm experiences in outlying areas become released.
A message from Rawene today states that a severe slip occurred on the property of a Native named Williams, at Panguru. So extensive was it, that Mrs Williams and her two sons had to break their way through the roof of their house, and to find shelter there. Even there they were not safe, and wei’e swept some chains down the hill and trapped in the debris. Some hours went «by before it was possible to extricate Mrs Williams, who is suffering from injuries and shock. A son was also injured, but his condition is not serious.
The house is a complete loss, the only visible portion being the chimney, which is protruding through the debris.
