RAMSAY MACDONALD TAKES
HIS SEAT
j The former Prime Minister, Mr ! Ramsay MacDonald, took his seat in j the House of Commons, to which he j was elected for Scottish Universities at a by-election on February 1. Mr MacDonald was introduced by the Prime Minister, Mr Stanley Baldwin, and the Home Secretary, Sir John >Simon.
WIN FOR HARRY LISTER
Harry Lister, 11.4, the New Zealand boxer, knocked out Jock Ellis, 11.7, in the fifth round of a bout at Nottingham.
HAYMAKING TRAGEDY
Fatal injuries were received by Peter Hinton, three-year-old son of Mr Douglas Hinton, farmer, of Eureka, when the boom of a stacker fell on him, during haymaking operations today. The child was rushed to the Waikato Hospital in an ambulance, but died on the way.
RUN OVER BY TRAIN
While attempting to board a shunting train, at Hokitika, Alma Hindmarsh, of Reefton, aged 10, was run over. Pier right leg had to be amputated above the ankle.
ITALIANS REPORT OGADEN VICTORY.
An official announcement states that General Graziani, commander of the Italian forces on the Ogaden (south) front, defeated the garrison at Lamascillindi, and occupied the town, capturing grain stores. Another column, including the Aosta lancers, scattered Abyssinians at the Nawa River, inflicting heavy losses and capturing men, arms and supplies. The Italians claimed the capture of Lamascillindi six weeks ago.
SUDDEN DEATH.
Hugh Aitken. aged about 60, who was on loan from the Mines Department to the Unemployment Board, and was employed as a gold mining drill supervisor at Marlborough died suddenly in camp at Onamaluto Valley.
EXPRESS RUNS LATE
Reduced speed over repaired portions of the line resulted in the express, which left Auckland this morning, running in the vicinity of two hones late, The schedule arrival time at Whangarei is 2.20 p.m., but at 3.20 this afternoon the train had not got in, and was then expected to arrive shortly after four o’clock. The first train from south of the blocked section to arrive in Whangarei was the goods train, which left Helensville at 6 a.m. today, and steamed into Whangarei at 3.20 p.m.
